Why did you start Media Talk 101?
Q: Why did you start this ministry and how did you start it?
A: When I was 17 years old I began to make some changes in my life concerning media choices and it had a huge impact on my walk with Christ. Several years later I became a youth pastor and I saw first hand how media was destroying lives both spiritually and sometimes physically. I used to pray and ask God how anyone could actually make a difference because it seemed like David facing Goliath with a slingshot.
I eventually discovered a ministry called True Lies Youth Talks which was addressing the issue and training speakers to share with youth in churches and schools so I applied to become one of their speakers and was accepted. For two years I travelled around the country speaking about media for this organization and then the director decided he was needing some personal change and closed the whole ministry down.
I was too passionate about the need to address the issue so I began to pray and ask God what I should do. I really believe God gave me the inspiration to start Media Talk 101 and I began to organize my thoughts on the subject which eventually became the book "What Wouldn't Jesus Do: Media Choices in the Light of Following Christ". After I was finished with the book I began to develop the presentation and the slide largely on the content from the book.
I continue to seek God for help in finding ways to communicate the message effectively and to open doors of ministry. I am now starting to train a few other speakers to give the presentation as well and we hope to eventually provide more resources like DVD's, small group study materials and other books and presentations. I really love being a part of this even though it was a little scary to step and start something new. I would appreciate your prayers and I am blessed by your interest in this ministry.
